10 Basic Commands To Teach Your Pup

Sit Command: 

Teach your pup to sit by holding a treat above its head and guiding its nose upward while saying "sit." Reward your pup with the treat when it sits down.

Stay Command:

Encourage your pup to stay in one place by giving the command "stay" while holding out your hand with the palm facing your dog. Start with short durations and gradually increase the time as your pup learns.

Come Command:

Train your pup to come to you when called by using the command "come" while enticing it with a treat or toy. Reward your pup when it comes to you.

Down Command:

Teach your pup to lie down on command by holding a treat in front of its nose and guiding it down to the ground while saying "down." Reward your pup when it lies down.

Leave It Command:

Train your pup to leave objects alone by saying "leave it" and offering a treat or toy as a distraction. Reward your pup for complying.

Drop It Command:

Teach your pup to release objects from its mouth by saying "drop it" and offering a treat or toy as a trade. Reward your pup when it drops the object.

Heel Command:

Train your pup to walk beside you on a leash by saying "heel" and using treats or verbal praise to encourage the desired behavior. Reward your pup for walking calmly beside you.

Off Command:

Teach your pup to get off furniture or people by saying "off" and gently guiding it to the ground. Reward your pup when it complies.

Wait Command:

Train your pup to wait patiently by saying "wait" and using a hand signal to indicate it should pause. Reward your pup for waiting calmly.

Go to Bed Command:

Teach your pup to go to its bed or designated area by saying "go to bed" and guiding it with a treat or leash. Reward your pup for going to the designated spot.
